Bunker Project 2017
Since the addition of the Air 'O Laters in the spring to hole number 5 pond, the maintenance crew at Blue Hills Country Club has been working diligently on completing our bunker renovations. At this point of the season, we have just finished wrapping up the front nine and currently half way through the back nine. As of today we have completed 16 bunkers and are now starting on the 17th, with hope to finish the green side bunkers in the coming months.
With these new bunkers we have high expectations for better play ability and aesthetics for our membership. The new design of these bunkers will give us quality drainage and
help prevent wash outs and keep a nice smooth edge around the bunkers.

Ewww that Smell!
Last year at Blue Hills CC we encountered an issue with a foul smell in #5 pond. Today when you tee off on #5 you will notice four stationary ducks, which are attached to our new Air-O-Lator System installed by our maintenance staff in the last few weeks. The purpose of this system is to help improve water movement by injecting air into the pond, designed to improve oxygen levels and destratification in the pond, and will improve water quality and clarity. The same process a system would do to keep ones fish tank clean. Installing this system should help reduce any foul smell that was encountered last year.

Removing Our Past and Redefining Our Future
These past few weeks at Blue Hills Country Club have been very busy for the Maintenance Crew. After much consideration, we have removed the small bunker behind number eight green and behind number twelve green. We removed all of the sand, added soil, and reshaped the two hillsides. The reshaping of the hillsides were necessary to remove the footprint of the old bunkers and to give the green banks a natural flow. We completed the project with strips of bluegrass/fescue sod. What is represented in the pictures is the final product.

Cart Path Expansions
This week the Blue Hills Maintenance Crew completed another cart path project. There were three particular areas where the cart path was needing to be widened: the turn right next to the halfway house, the turn just after seven tee, and the turn after six green right next to the drinking fountain.
The cart path next to the halfway house becomes congested easily. This new expansion will allow traffic coming from 9 green to 10 tee to pass easier with the carts coming from 18 green. The new cart path addition after seven tee and six green was needed for Blue Hills personnel and the beverage cart. Please be sure to park on one side or the other so other people can use path.
Thanks,
Have a good day!

Clearing the Lagoon
One of the many projects we have been working on throughout the year is cleaning out the lagoon next to 18 champion tee. The lagoon is where the natural creeks flow to and collect. The excess water then overflows into our man-made water feature down stream. One of the issues with the natural flowing creek is the trash, garbage, and plant material that flows downstream after heavy rains. This pollution then collects in the lagoon and litters our creek banks. With the pollution also comes excess silt and soil, and eventually builds up and develops mounds in the middle of the water. Looking at the "before" pictures you will see these mounds being described. There also used to be cattails along a portion of the bank that we also removed for aesthetic purposes.
With these before and after pictures you will see the clear water of the lagoon as well as the removal of the cattails.
